The Willows Room caters for our children aged 3-5 years, seeing them through their final nursery years with a special focus on preparing them for the transition to primary school.

With this in mind, every aspect of this room is carefully planned to promote the children's independence, resilience and ‘life readiness' throughout the day. We place a special emphasis on ‘golden rules' which promote mutual respect, democratic decision making and not being afraid to speak up and express themselves.

How we teach at our Preschool in Redhill

Our Preschoolers are presented with numerous opportunities to express their independence as they self-register on arrival, hang up their bags, pour their own drinks, serve their own snacks from the snack bar, prepare for and clean up after meal times, dress themselves appropriately for going outside and take responsibility for their own hygiene – just to name a few!

The children are encouraged to self-select and combine resources as they investigate, learn and challenge themselves. Phonics, writing and mathematical concepts are introduced to the children at a gradual pace (with an emphasis on fun!).

Giving your child options

Learning how to make choices and decisions is an important part of a child's personal and social development.

To that end, we involve them in deciding what they will be getting up to each day. The resources in the environment and the activities planned both ahead of time and ‘in the moment' are therefore a mixture of what the child-directed learning and what is initiated by the practitioner who know them and their interests and next steps so well!

Personal Care

We believe in promoting personal hygiene and self-care to all of the children in the nursery. This becomes especially prevalent with the Preschool children as they embark on their increasing self-care and toilet training journeys.

We encourage every child to develop the independent skills required to support their transition through life such as; accessing the environment independently, taking themselves to the toilet and cleaning themselves afterwards, keeping themselves clean by blowing their noses and washing their hands as well as putting on their own coats and shoes!

All of our rooms are upheld by our highly-motivated and passionate team of practitioners that strive to support your child every step of their Early Years Journey at Tiddly Winks Nursery.

Your child will also be assigned a ‘key person' who will be on hand from their settling in and building first relationships in the room, planning for their next developmental steps and capturing their milestones met to share with those closest to them. Our talented team are here to support your child both at home and at nursery and to be on hand for comfort and cuddles when needed.
