Tiddly Winks Nursery Willows

(Pre-School) Room

From our recent Ofsted report:

'Staff provide ample opportunities for children of all ages to explore and actively learn.

Our Willows room, also known as our 'Preschool' room caters for children during their final nursery years with a special focus on preparing them for their transition to school. In this room, every aspect of the environment and practice is carefully planned to promote the children's independence and 'life readiness' throughout the day.

About our teaching...

This is the stage where we encourage the children to follow 'golden rules' which include; being respectful towards others; democratic decision making; and empowering them to value their voices as they express themselves in this big world!

The Preschool children embrace the endless opportunities to be independent as they self-register on arrival, hang up their bags, pour their own water and serve their snack from the snack bar, prepare for and clean up after meal times, dress themselves appropriately for going outside and taking responsibility for their self-cleanliness and hygiene - to name a few! The children are encouraged to self-select and combine resources across the environment as they investigate as they learn and challenge themselves to reach their next milestone.

Phonics, writing and mathematical concepts are introduced to the children at their own pace with an emphasis on fun.

What we do...

The Preschool room is designed to embody the enjoyable and inspiring experience their early years educational experience should be. It features a specific mark-making (writing) area, a mathematics area, a 'reading garden,' sand and water play, malleable play, a role-play area, a construction and small world area as well as two additional levels for practitioner-supervised learning opportunities; a 'Tree house' and a 'Castle'.

Learning how to make choices and decisions are an important part of a child's personal and social development and we involve them in deciding what they will do each day.  The activities are a mixture of what a child chooses to do and what is initiated by us.

 Key person

All of our rooms are upheld by our highly-motivated and passionate team of practitioners that strive to support your child every step of their Early Years Journey at Tiddly Winks Nursery. Your child will also be assigned a ‘key person’ who will be on hand from their settling in and building first relationships in the room, planning for their next developmental steps and capturing their milestones met to share with those closest to them. Our talented team are here to support your child both at home and at nursery and to be on hand for comfort and cuddles when needed.

Personal care

Hygiene is also important and we aim to teach the children about the importance of washing their hands before meals and after the toilet.

We encourage each child to develop the social skills they need to be ready for school; taking themselves to the toilet, keeping themselves clean and safe, being able to put on their own coats and shoes, be kind to their friends and sharing, and, of course, good table manners.
