Structure of our day

At Tiddly Winks Nursery the aim of our nursery in Redhill is to provide a warm happy place where your children can be looked after with stimulation, fun, rest, cuddles, healthy food and so that they can grow into inquisitive, socially aware children that have great memories of their time at Tiddly Winks.

Our days vary depending on the age of our children.  We cater for babies, toddlers and pre-schoolers.  As a child moves into each of these phases their care, play and stimulation needs change.  We have created different areas and environments where they can engage in a range of activities that suit their development stage.

The very young babies need a lot of attention, care and naps so they can re-charge their batteries.  Whereas the older children become much more inquisitive and need far more stimulation as their interest in the world and each other increases. At Tiddly Winks Nursery our typical activities include painting, music, sensory play, listening to stories and singing.

  At Tiddly Winks Nursery, we now use LearningBook, a digital online learning journal system to document children’s learning and achievements.

“LearningBook is a Digital Learning Journey that combines easy to use, practical features with beautiful design, underpinned with safeguarding-aware technology.”

Even the small steps are a big part of your child’s development, and LearningBook means you don’t miss out on a single part of your child’s learning journey. You can access a sucure electronic copy of your child’s learning journey at any time to view their most recent observations captured by their key person and photos and videos of their special moments. This, along with the option for you to write comments on observations and upload photos from home, provides a great opportunity for information sharing, to enable us to have the best possible knowledge about your child, and be able to plan for their development.

 How we learn

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)

Tiddly Winks Nursery follows the requisites of the Early Years Foundation Stage. In a nutshell, the EYFS sets out the standards for Early Years providers for children aged birth to 5 to ensure children learn and develop to their full potential and that they will be kept safe from harm in a suitable environment. The EYFS applies to all childcare providers in England and is broken down into two sections:

1. Welfare 

The welfare requirements ensure the following  –

The nursery implements a safeguarding policy and staff have undergone a rigorous screening process to ensure they are suitable for the post
The facilities and all the equipment are safe for children to use
Children have access to a good quality environment including both indoor and outdoor space
Staff meet the qualification criteria and receive appropriate training to care for children
Information about children and families is stored confidentially

2. Learning and Development

EYFS has three prime areas and four specific areas of Learning and Development around which planning, observations, assessments, provision and practice with children should be based upon -

Tiddly Winks Nursery our primary focus is preparing our children for life readiness as well as introducing many of the concepts that will form the foundation for primary education. Through play we cover the seven areas of learning from the EYFS (2012), and introduce colours, shapes, numbers, and, of course phonics.  We will help them to develop confidence in their own ability,  and work towards an understanding of British Values.

British values is about respecting and celebrating every ones differences and individuality whilst understanding that we are all part of one community. The nursery actively promotes British values and encourages and praises positive, caring and polite behaviour at all times, and provides an environment where children learn to respect themselves, other people and their surroundings.

The nursery is affiliated with the National Handwriting Association, which is evident across al age groups leaning environments, where the opportunities for emergent mark making are facilitated with good practice and resources approved by the NHA.

Our nursery food is provided in-house and we have a weekly menu on a four week rota, so you will always know what we are serving. This is displayed within the nursery for your reference. We aim to cater for the dietary requirements of all our children so please let do tell us if you have any special requests.

Our outdoor areas are designed form the Nursery 's desire to integrate natural materials and objects for the childrens exploration. Children join in with planting and caring for plants, using their imagination in our "mud' kitchen as well as being able to access traditionally "indoor" activities in the fresh air.

All of our rooms are upheld by our highly-motivated and passionate team of practitioners that strive to support your child every step of their Early Years Journey at Tiddly Winks Nursery. Your child will also be assigned a ‘key person’ who will be on hand from their settling in, and building first relationships in the room, planning for their next developmental steps and capturing their milestones met to share with those closest to them using our online learning journal programme.

 

Our practitioners are skilled and sensitive in order to support children to form secure emotional attachments to their peers and other adults. Children use these skills to develop their independence and confidence. The Key Person especially facilitates opportunities for play and exploration within the environment, developing engagement, and understanding of their feelings, and how best to express these.
