Tiddly Winks Nursery Meals and Snacks


At Tiddly Winks Nursery  we offer our children a well balanced, nutritional set of meals and snacks that are cooked on site.  Because have a full time cook and we prepare the food daily, we can ensure that our food contains the minimum amount of salt and sugar. 

We have been awarded the "GOOD" award from the children's Food Trust. Our menu has been created in line with the "Eat Better Start Better" guidelines. The Eat Better, Start Better programme (The Children's Food Trust) was commissioned by the Department for Education and developed with organisations like PACEY, the National Day Nurseries Association and the Pre-School Learning Alliance. It ensures that the nutritional requirements of children aged from one up to five years are met. Our menu has been checked and approved by the Children's Food Trust. Not all children eat well and we know this can be a headache and a worry for many parents.  At Tiddly Winks Nursery we make meal times fun and a sociable. We promote healthy eating and good table manners to the children. We all eat together, in groups,  and our teachers help and encourage each of the children to try the different foods.

Allergies and Dietary Requirements

Our Cook is experienced with catering for children's food, and has taken training in catering for allergies and intolerances. If your child has a documented allergy or intolerance, we will arrange for you to meet with Cook, and, if required, our Nutritionist, to ensure that we are able to provide a nutritious and balanced diet for your child.   

We also work closely with the East Surrey Dental Department in planning our meals.

We have a weekly menu on a five weekly rota so you can see what your child will eat before-hand. This is displayed within the nursery for your reference. Lunch is always a hot cooked meal. At tea time, we encourage the children to help with the preparation, developing their independence and use of cutlery skills. For the younger children, we will always tell you daily about what they liked and how much or little they ate.


For toddlers and pre-schoolers, we have drinking stations where the children gradually learn to help themselves.  Babies have access to fresh drinks throughout the day. At tea time, we offer the children a choice of water or fresh milk.

Meal times

Our meal and snack times are at :

  • Breakfast 8am to 8.30am
  • Snack varies from group to group, but is about 10 am to 10.30 am
  • Lunch 12 noon - 12.30pm
  • Tea 4:00pm
  • Afternoon snack 

Current Sample Menu

Our menus have been prepared by nutritionists and the Early Years Nutrition Partnership, as part of our shared venture, being committed to the philosophy that good dietary habits are established early, and can set patterns for life. Individual special diets are catered for after discussion with parents and Cook, and our on-hand nutritionist.

Allergen information is available on request; we have risk assessed out kitchens' allergens, and because of the nature of our food operation, we cannot fully guarantee that any food will be completely free from allergens
