Tiddly Winks Nursery Little Oaks (Toddler) Room

From our recent Ofsted report:

'Staff have good knowledge of the Early Years Foundation Stage. They consistently provide interesting activities for children which engage and challenge their development'

Our Little Oaks room, also known as our ‘Toddler’ room caters for those children that are perfecting their walk and learning to talk! Once our babies indicate they are physically confident movers and sociably and emotionally ready, we prepare them to take the next step in their early years journey. In this room, our environment and our childcare approach is adapted to support these children to build confidence in their abilities, foster special relationships and establish their unique identities.

About our teaching...

This is the stage where we can truly focus on supporting our children in developing the art of conversation as they experience their ‘language explosion’ and add new words to their vocabulary bank at a dizzying rate. For our practitioners working with these children, it’s extremely exciting to be a part of! The children are encouraged to use their increasing communication at every opportunity as they map out their own play day and choose from the stimulating array of learning opportunities on offer. our children become more aware of the world around them we use their interests and show them things that fill them with wonder. We encourage the children to extend their learning across a variety of differing environments.

Experimental and sensorial play (or messy play as we often call it) becomes fun and makes a huge impact on their impressionable minds.  We love watching their faces as they plunge their hands into water at different temperatures, or mix heavy stones with fine sand or pour different coloured water onto fabric or cornflour.

What we do...

There’s no child busier than a toddler: exploring, walking, finding out, reaching for! Once our little ones are walking, it is advised, they should get at least three hours of physical activity per day and we aim to provide in our Little Oaks room! The room is designed to embody the enjoyable and inspiring experience their early years educational experience should be. It features a cosy carpeted space with under floor heating to encompass our sensory area, a ‘reading garden’, role play, a construction and small world area as well as an inspired space for malleable (messy) play, mark-marking, play dough and sand and water play.

 Key person

All of our rooms are upheld by our highly-motivated and passionate team of practitioners that strive to support your child every step of their Early Years Journey at Tiddly Winks Nursery. Your child will also be assigned a ‘key person’ who will be on hand from their settling in and building first relationships in the room, planning for their next developmental steps and capturing their milestones met to share with those closest to them. Our talented team are here to support your child both at home and at nursery and to be on hand for comfort and cuddles when needed.

Social skills

A big emphasis for us at this stage is teaching the children how we all interact together and how to appreciate others.  We focus on social skills and enabling the children to express themselves.  Teaching a child how to be patient, how to share and to take turns is often not easy, but these are lessons that can be taught gently by example, and through group games.

Personal care

We will supply disposable nappies and wipes at no extra charge.  However, we ask that you please bring a spare set of clothes in a named bag each day. A big nappy change can sometimes need a new set of clothes and occasionally playtimes can get messy too.
